Eggs Hatching!

I take pride in selectively breeding to produce superior examples of each morph I work with, including "normal", or wild type ball pythons. You won't find a bunch of mediocre looking animals here. This will be the first year I have female morphs that are ready to breed. As you can see below, I have a shot at hatching out some cool animals, some of which will be the ingredients I need to produce some of my favorate 3-4 morph designer ball pyrthons. This is what it's all about.

Ovulated 7/16/10 - Eggs due 8/15/10

I'm a little glad that my '06 female pastel did't go for me last season, because she's got another year on her, and because my bee locked up with her as soon as I introduced them. I now have a good shot at hitting killer bees, super patels and more bees from this girl. This pair has locked up three times as of 3/29/10.

Black Pastels

Laid 4 good eggs 8/4/10

I don't know if there is a name for supers made from a cinny and a black pastel, but I'm hoping to hit one this year from my BHB line female cinny and Ian G. line black pastel male. I love any solid, dark colored pythons. The irridescence seen reflected in their velvety, patternless scales gets me every time. I'm a big fan of Macklott's pythons and similar looking pythons for that reason, so once I saw the first super cinny and saw that there was finally a ball python with the trait I knew I had to add the project to my breeding program. My cinny girl is still on the smaller side, so I may have to wait until next year to get my super, but I'm definitely going for it this season. This pair has locked up four times as of 3/29/10.

Hatched 3 YBs & 1 normal 7/14/10

My female is a beautiful high yellow/high blushing example of a yellow belly. I'm rotating my male bee and yellow belly in with her. She was still a little small last year snd didn't go for me, but I'm hoping for better luck with her this year. This pair has locked up four times as of 3/29/10.

Hatched 7/14/10 - Clutch sired by YB

I really like what the yellow belly gene does to pastels and bumble bees, so I had to pair these two up. I'd be just as happy hitting a pastel yellow belly as I would a yellow belly bumble bee or an ivory. She is glowing and bowl wrapping for a few weeks now, so I'm hoping she drops at least four good eggs for me this year. She is a picky eater on mice, so she isn't huge, but odds are on my side to hit at least one really cool snake if she goes this year. This pair has locked up twice as of 3/29/10.

Het albinos

Laid 6 good eggs 5/8/10 -
Hatched 7/7/10 - 6 het albinos

My male is holding his color well. and this female is my darkest girl. This photo shows her glowing! That's as light as she gets. I'm hoping that she has as much yellow pigment as she does black. My female het albino is from Ian G.'s high contrast stock, and I'm crossing my fingers that this pairing will produce some nice females to keep this project as high contrast as the best of them. She didn't take last year from this pairing, so she's bigger and should give me a few extra hets this year. This pair has locked up five times as of 3/29/10.

Mojaves
Normals

I held back the nicest male mojave from several that I hatched in '08. Most of the mojaves that my original breeder mojave produced were top notch, and this guy is no exception. I bought this female last year specifically to breed to this mojave to try and increase the striping on my mojaves. I somehow mixed up my holdback male and female mojaves, so this pair has only locked up once as of 3/29/10. Luckily I re-probed them and discovered my error. I just hope it was in time to get this guy locked up with a couple of girls before they ovulate or reabsorb. So far, so good.

Laid 4 good eggs 7/8/10

I can't wait to produce some pastaves from the stock I have. I have big plans mojave crosses in the next couple of years. In all honesty, pastaves are at the bottom of the list of combos I want to make with the mojave gene, but it's still definitely on my list, and I'm expecting nothing short of producing pastaves that could go toe-to-toe with any pastave out there. This pair has only locked up once as of 3/29/10.

Normals

I bought a pair of siblingss last year that were hatched from a w.c. female that had yellow striping down the sides that divided the upper half of her body, which looks normal, from the lower half of her body, which is very granite-like, and she has wide, white borders outlining her pattern. Some of the siblings also had the same look, so I picked up the nicest looking pair when they were about 40g each. I noticed similarities between this pair and yellow bellies, so I'm planning to breed the female to my het ivory next year. They also look very similar to NERD's Bling line of YBs, so my fingers are crossed that these will prove out to be genetic; either something new, het ivory, or possibly a YB compatible gene, like the spectre.

Normals

Laid 8 HUGE eggs 6/8/10
Hatched 8/9/10
1 bee, 4 pastels, 2 spiders 1 normal

This C.H. girl is my largest female by far. She is the same age as a few of my other females, which aren't the oldest I have, and is on the same feeding schedule as everyone else, yet she is growing unlike any of my other girls. I call her my Volta-ish fgemale for that reason, although I don't know what her liniage is, nor what the locality she hails from. But at 5 years old and 3,000 grams plus, and stretching over 5 feet, there is definitely something going on with her genes. While that size is far from unheard of at her age, I feed my breeders on the lower end of the range for most of the year. All of my breeders are svelt and muscular, including this giant, who if fed as much as some breeders offer would probably be 3600g - 4,000g+ by now. She also has a very odd pattern and a clover spot on the yop of her head, so I am really lookig forward to seeing what her offspring look like, as this will be her first year laying eggs, which I'm expecting to be 10+ easy. This pair has locked up twice as of 3/29/10.

Hatched 8/9/10 - Clutch sired by Bee

This is the same big girl from above. She's definitely unique looking, and whether or not there's anything genetic going on with her looks, I think she will compliment the black pastel gene nicely. Hopefully multiple males will father some of the eggs from her this year. With the large clutch I'm expecting her to throw, it would be nice to see some black pastels, YBs, bees, pastels, and spiders pipping. This pair has locked up once as of 3/29/10.

Hatched 8/9/10 - Clutch sired by Bee

I'm looking forward to seeing offspring from this pairing. She has a very busy pattern, a clear belly and a light head spot, but I'm not calling her a dinker until I see some weird babies. At a muscular 3,000 grams, I'm hoping for a nice 10-12 egg who's your daddy clutch. This pair has locked up twice as of 3/29/10.

This girl gave me 8 god eggs last year at 2,200 grams, four of which were some of the brightest gold and yellow spiders I've ever seen; clean, too. She started putting weight back on immediately, and is back up to a good healthy breeding weight to hopefully give me some of the brightest bees and pastels, too. This pair has locked up twice as of 3/29/10.

This big girl was left over when I planned my breeding season, so I have just been pairing her up with random co-dom males every 3-4 weeks or so. I have no idea who was put in with her when, so only time will tell what will pop out of any eggs I get from her.

This girl gave me a nice clutch of mojaves in 2008, and is finally back up to a good breeding weight. I thought she would be a good match for a cinnamon, or black pastel, so I'm trying for black pastels this year.

Last year, after listening to Tracy Barker on Reptile Radio, I turned off all my heat tape and started heating my snake room to 86-88. During the winter I lowered it to 82-84 with night drops down to 78, as well as continuing to use a shortened day light cycle, and leaving the window racked to allow the humidity and barometric pressure to fluctuate with the natural weather patterns. The change caused nearly all of my females to take the year off from breeding, with only two of them ovulating and producing clutches.

I'm hoping that they have all acclimated to the change and are now ready to give me a great season. While it was a bummer at the time, I should make up for the horrible season this year with all of my females having had a minimum of a full year off, they are all nice and heavy, and should all give me larger clutches than they would have dropped last season. On top of that, my male bee, as well as a few other males, are getting up there in size and should be breeding machines this year. Where last year I couldn't get my bee to lock up with anything, this year he is nearing 700g and has already quickly locked up with females. My other smaller males should be following suit, and some of my '06 amd '07 females should be ready to produce their first clutches, as well. So, at this point, I don't see any reason why the 2010 breeding season won't be a great one here at J.W. Exotics.

Update - 8/13/10 - The breeding season is well under way with 5 clutches on the ground, two more due between now and the end of August, and a couple of late girls still looking promising for late ovulations this year. Check back often, as I am beginning to update my site with this year's babies, and will also be having a collection reduction sale to make room for all the holdbacks I plan to keep this year. Don't miss this chance to pick up some great sub-adults and proven breeders for great pricies!
